Day 6: Many forms of Prayer

10 Experiences

The movement of God’s Spirit is very gentle, very soft—and hidden. It does not seek attention. But that movement is also very persistent, strong and deep. It changes our hearts radically. The faithful discipline of prayer reveals to you that you are the blessed one and gives you the power to bless others.  Nouwen, Life of the Beloved.

A way to listen to your inner blessing is to pick a prayer or a scripture, memorize it and say it over and over as a prayer.

You are invited to use a rosary or prayer beads moving your hand to a new bead each time you pray your special prayer or scripture.

You can move your finger following the path to the inside the labyrinth as you say your words. Once you have reached the center connect to your breath and just be with the spirit. When you are ready, begin saying your special words as your finger begins the journey back out of the labyrinth.  Here is a link to print up a finger labyrinth:

You are welcome to use one of these prayers or scriptures.  You may want to use a bible or sacred text to look for yourself.  You will find one that resonates with you like it is calling your name.  Stick with that one for awhile.

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.

O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life.

God for us, we call you Father.
God alongside us, we call you Jesus.
God within us, we call you Holy Spirit.
You are the eternal mystery that enable, enfolds and enlivens all things,
Even us and even me.
Every name falls short of your goodness and greatness.
We can only see who you are in what it.
We ask for such perfect seeing—
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. Amen.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
If I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

Our Mother who is within us,
We celebrate your many names.
Your wisdom come; your will be done,
Unfolding from the depths within us.
Each day you give us all that we need.
You remind us of our limits and we let go.
You support us in our power, and we act with courage.
For you are the dwelling place within us,
The empowerment around us,
And the celebration among us,
Now and forever, now and forever, now and forever,
Now and Forever.
Blessed be!

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.

In the same way, let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify my father in heaven.

May you be blessed.  May you be free.
